When I decided I needed to live in a more nourishing way, I developed a daily set of wellness rituals to set me on a path for my healthiest day possible.
Even though I’m now cancer free, I still follow the same routine I did during my treatment and rehabilitation, every day. From the moment I wake up, I’m on a path to health – and I feel vibrant because of it!
Now I have thanked my family and friends, I thought a nice way to start this blog would be to share my daily routine in the hope that others will feel as brilliant as I do as a result. A lot of friends ask me about my routine. Well, here it is!
Tongue scraping
On rising, every morning I tongue scrape. Religiously. This Ayurvedic ritual removes bacteria and toxins from the tongue – among other things.
Did you know that during your sleep your digestive system removes the toxins in your body and deposits them onto the surface of your tongue? By scraping them away we can remove them entirely, instead of letting them absorb back into our bodies.
This can lead to a whole host of issues including a weakened immune system, and that’s just the start.
How to tongue scrape
First you will need a tongue scraper. This is essentially a long, thin, flat piece of metal bent into a ‘u’ shape.
Stand in front of a mirror, stick your tongue out, and scrape from as far back on your tongue as possible to the front along the surface of your tongue in one stroke. Rinse and repeat! It feels incredible.
Where to buy a tongue scraper
The best part is, tongue scraping is inexpensive. They can be purchased online, or from the Centre de Ayuververda in Santa Catalina. I personally prefer the stainless steel variety, as they are easier to clean.
If you do try tongue scraping, I’d love to hear what you think.
