Would you like to slow down and tune in to what’s most important to you from the comfort of your own home? Marianne de Kuyper offers the perfect opportunity to experience restorative yin yoga classes in your own intimate space with her ‘living room yoga’. An idea conceived while travelling in Mozambique, Marianne found that by going to people’s residences in order to teach, she was able to explore unknown corners of foreign locations, experience the culture, and get to know local communities where they were most at ease – their own homes. The yoga class host can have a private session or invite a small group of 5-6 friends to join in, and practice together. It’s a win-win for all involved.
Marianne’s Yoga Journey
Marianne’s personal yoga practice began 10 years ago and was a grounding constant during her extensive travels around the globe. After a full year of daily practice, her then teacher encouraged her to embark on a teacher training course, which she completed in 9 months. She loved it so much she even considers it a ‘second birth’. For the next 5 years she continued to absorb everything she could through further yoga courses, workshops and training, whilst also teaching full time at studios and health clubs in Amsterdam.
Over the past 5 years Marianne has cut back to teaching yin yoga part time, and now that her travels have led her to Mallorca, she is offering her Living Room Yoga classes here to our local community on the island.
The Classes
Marianne’s classes involve yin yoga, breathing exercises and self-enquiry meditations. These sessions allow you to take notice of what’s present. This awareness allows you to see clearly what’s happening in your life right now and this can be your starting point for other goals and initiatives.
“People often notice a release of long-held tension merely due to my soothing voice, calming presence and the energy that I bring into the room. They often leave the session feeling calm, present and positive and a whole lot lighter.”
Marianne’s approach is flexible and customised. Simply tell her just before the class what you want to focus on, any pain, or areas you would like to work on, and she will design a practice accordingly. Even in a group she can easily adjust to each individual, so that the group is essentially doing the same practice, but modified versions of each pose.
“Even though I don’t always know what I will say next, words and ideas for the class flow through me while I teach. Based on what I see happening around me I always manage to hold space for all to relax and release tension.”
A Unique Addition – Writing Meditation
After the yoga component of the class is complete, Marianne can guide you through a writing meditation inspired by wellness industry pioneer, Bija Bennett’s, journaling method. The Yoga beforehand allows you to calm down, release tension and actually relax. When you are quiet and in your zone, the writing meditation can come naturally. Often it can be very beneficial to draw upon the feelings that come up during the practice.
Super Change Champion – From Doubtful to Decisive
Over the years Marianne has struggled with challenges like sound sensitivity, depression, burn-out, fear of failure, perfectionism, fear of losing someone and not being assertive enough, and sought extensive guidance around these topics. Her own experience and knowledge prompted her to create Superchangechampion.com, where she provides various e-courses to guide you on how to take doable steps towards your goals, and make change easy.
Marianne has developed her own philosophy whereby she believes everything is possible utilising ‘MCA’s’: Momentum Creating Activities. The premise is that all we need to do is to take one step per day towards our desired direction. Marianne will help you to initiate the right kind of change to get going in the right direction – towards living a peaceful life in a busy world.
“We are all unique and we all have our own path to follow. The blueprint that I will be sharing with you was once given to me by a business coach and the method has been fine-tuned over the years. Moving forward on my path, I have added to it, changed it, made it my own. It has worked for me again and again and I know it will work for you too.”
