Your work is all about helping women reconnect with their body, mind & soul. How did your personal journey of rediscovering your feminine essence begin?
It started when I realized I was repeating the same patterns in life over and over again, for example attracting the same type of men and experiencing the same negative situations in my work-life. I could feel ‘something is off here’ so I started to look into different teachings to explore why this was happening. It just so happened that when I was in Dubai, I met a woman who was involved in the salsa scene like me and something drew me to her, she was very feminine and confident yet soft. She was offering different classes and even a retreat in Bali for women. I was pulled to attend and started by participating in her Sacred Feminine Circle classes. So much emotion came up, not just in the mind but in the body. We had to move and dance. I began to see there was so much in the body that needed to be let out, and permission was given to look at it, instead of pushing it down. We are taught in a way to not be so emotional, but those emotions are showing you something. They show when you are not being honest with yourself, true to yourself, maybe you’re giving in, compromising your standards. That’s where the problem lies, shutting off your intuition and accepting things instead of challenging them. My desire to explore this was where my journey began.
What can someone expect when they attend your Embodied Feminine Flow class?
First of all, a warm welcome! The classes evoke a feeling of sisterhood, of women coming together. It is a safe space where you can drop your inhibitions, barriers, and any masks, such as putting on a brave face. You can open up as well as celebrate. It’s a journey to connect with yourself, with the body, accompanied by music. You will leave the class with a feeling of fullness, with an open heart, high on emotions and smiling. It’s super amazing to see.
What would you say to someone who wants to attend the class, but feels shy or embarrassed to dance in front of others?
It’s a gift to yourself. Come and try – there’s nothing you have to do. Part of the class is a moving meditation with the eyes closed so it’s an inward journey. There’s no need to compare with others. Just feel your body. I always say it’s ok if you don’t want to dance, but just go onto the dance floor, close your eyes and connect to the music then see what you want to do. Just take that one step to see what it’s like. Even if you don’t dance there’s often an emotional release and a feeling of lightness afterwards.
What are some of the reactions and emotions that come up for women during the class?
Funnily enough, it seems that similar emotions tend to come up for the women sharing the class. It might be that they’re feeling they want to connect with their heart more, for other groups it could be exhaustion, and with others, it could be gratitude that they want to share. There always seems to be a red thread throughout the women in the class which is very beautiful. The women complement each other and are there for each other.
You also offer Embodiment Coaching. Can you tell us a bit more about what this is?
Embodiment Coaching utilises a combination of different modalities and is very much personalized to the individual. There’s mindfulness work, reflection, breathwork, and quantum energy field work such as manifesting and the law of attraction. I also always make the client incorporates movement to connect with the body. Movement helps the information we study drop from the head into the heart, into the gut. Suddenly you can feel which teachings and practices resonate with you the most. When you move and connect with the heart, that is where the real answers come, where your truth comes through. In the mind we’re logic focused; the monkey-mind is leading. The body holds the answers which the mind is very good at covering up.
Another aspect that is super important for me is that, yes, we do look at why you react or feel certain ways, but we don’t dig into that. We don’t stay there. We come back to the present. Today’s a new day and the focus is on what you believe today, how you want to show up today and move forward.
Reiki is another service you offer. What is Reiki and what is it helpful for?
The concept of Reiki comes from Japan and is a form of energy healing. It is the universal life force that is around us. I follow the traditional Reiki modality which is from Mikao Usui. The hands hover above the body to understand where there is no energy or stagnant energy and rebalance it and get it moving again. Benefits include relieving tension, deep relaxation, helping to clear the mind, as well as releasing emotional or physical pain. Often people say it feels like a massage despite the fact there’s no physical touch.
The ‘Red Moon Program’ is an exciting new program that you’ve developed. Can you tell us about it?
The Red Moon program is focused on women who struggle with their menstrual cycle such as experiencing cramps, PMS, and a general feeling of “I have to deal with this” every month. It’s important to know it is possible to have a menstrual cycle without these difficulties. I went through it myself. I noticed that when I focused on self-care, engaging with people and activities I enjoy, as well as honouring the beliefs I have and speaking my truth, my cramps would diminish. So, on one side we have the emotional level, but on the other side is the biological things that are happening as well. When you look into the biochemical reactions in the body you can understand why we feel and behave certain ways at certain stages of our cycle. For example, our serotonin depletes in the days just before our period which can be what leads us to crave chocolate for that serotonin kick. I want to give this knowledge to women so that through the month they can charge themselves with things that serve them well to positively affect their cycle. To come into balance, to accept, and to see the beauty of the cycle. It’s a 3-month program that gives you the tools to maintain a positive and pain-free cycle.
You do so much by giving back to women through your work – what self-care practices do you incorporate daily to keep your own cup filled up?
So much! I cuddle my cat, I stretch, dance or sing, and I make sure I go to the sea daily even just to sit by the water. Connecting with nature and being in the sun is important to me. I also incorporate regular massage and reiki sessions or attend a new moon ceremony as a participant. It’s important for me to receive instead of always being the one who’s providing the space for others.
Any final thoughts you would like to share about your work?
I often get asked ‘why do you want to work with women?’. It’s because it feels so good! I know how great we can feel on a day-to-day basis and I want everyone to feel that way. I want people to know that if they feel stuck, there is a way out. It doesn’t matter if you’re 20 or 70, it’s never too late. I want everyone to see the magic in day-to-day moments, it’s possible for everyone.
