With my induction and first week of my new programme complete, things were now in full swing. I had taken to my SIMPLIFYT routine like a duck to water. The varied fitness classes were keeping things fresh and interesting, and the life coaching sessions with Evelyn Sztojanov were grounding me mentally and giving me a clearer vision of what I wanted for my future. The SIMPLIFYT boutique studio was definitely serving as my safe haven during the winter months. Here’s what weeks 2 to 10 entailed on my SIMPLIFYT journey.
The Boost 30′ Sessions
Twice weekly I attended the ‘Boost’ sessions – 30 minutes of fairly intense exercise. With a maximum of 4 participants you really get personalised attention, and the trainers ensure you’re allocated a session where the other members are of a similar fitness level, so no one is left floundering, or conversely struggling to work up a sweat. I loved these sessions. Bodyweight exercises, equipment such as free weights and bands, and plenty of functional movements are incorporated into a session that has you out the door in half an hour – fantastic!
As the weeks progressed so did the weight of my dumbbells, and I was getting faster and less out of breath with the cardio. The scales hadn’t moved much at all however, but I was conscious of the old adage ‘muscle weighs more than fat’ and hoping that my fat was indeed melting away as my biceps gained a little more bulge.
Electrofitness
This was a new one for me. Being electrocuted whilst working out wasn’t high on my list of ‘must-do’s’ but I put my faith in the trainers and tentatively gave the Electrofitness class a chance. It turns out I needn’t have had any concerns, EMS electrofitness technology actually has its origins in physiotherapy and rehabilitation and is very safe and not the least bit painful. The low and medium intensity currents emitted by the snazzy electrosuits activate more than 300 muscles, without loading joints, in just 20 minutes. Anything that saves even more time in the gym is a winner in my books! I even quite liked the tingling sensation and was keen to ramp it up a little more each session I went to.
Outdoor Circuit Training Sessions
Mornings are not my strong point, never mind mornings on the WEEKEND. But, somehow, I managed to pull myself together and drag myself along to the Saturday park sessions at 10am and complete what was the most gruelling session of each week – an hour of circuit training. Full disclosure, I did miss a couple of these classes, one due to a cold, and the other due to an…erm…particularly jovial Friday night Christmas party (let’s not forget it was the silly season!). I must say that these sessions were a great kickstart for a productive weekend. A motivating group environment, friendly competition, and getting outdoors in the crisp winter air was a real mood booster, and the longer length format meant I really felt I’d had a good workout afterwards.
Life Coaching Sessions
With my fitness routine well in place during these weeks I could feel myself getting stronger physically. What was harder to measure was the progress made during my weekly life coaching sessions with Evelyn Sztojanov, who is a comprehensive mind and body personal trainer and owner of SIMPLIFYT. What I did notice however, was that I was starting to gain some real self-confidence and clear direction around what had previously been a very murky looking future. Were these sessions responsible?
Life coaching is all about activating your resources and using personal development and communication tools to facilitate your evolution. From what I can see life coaching is a very personal experience, and how a session looks depends entirely on the individual. What I can tell you is that my own sessions brought up a LOT of previously unexamined parts of my sense of self. Without getting too personal, here are some areas I gleaned real wisdom around thanks to some emotional deep diving with Evelyn:
- Seeing how I show up for myself in each area of my life, the facets of my personality I nurture and neglect, and how I can go about breaking negative habits, thoughts and patterns.
- What has shaped my perception of success and happiness whether it is serving me.
- The expectations I place on myself, and the power I give to others to affect my self-confidence and notions of success.
- How to navigate trying times and difficult situations (and my newfound independence) without having all the answers to hand.
- How to amplify positive and calming feelings in times of unease, confusion and stress.
- Reclaiming my power and appreciating how far I have come with a clear vision of where I want to be in the future and how to get there.
The End is Near…
My 10-week programme was coming to a close, and I was about to set off on my holiday to New Zealand. The proof of my progress would most certainly be apparent from what my friends and family made of my demeanour after having not seen me in over a year (although I was feeling fantastic, I must say).
I was all booked in for my follow-up sessions at SIMPLIFYT upon my return to Mallorca a few weeks later. I would have another InBody Analysis, a fitness test, and a ‘check-in’ life coaching session with Evelyn.
Next week find out my final results and thoughts about the 10-week programme, and where I am today – 6-months after completion.
