Suzanne Garaty is a Nutritional Therapist, food coach and natural chef. In the first of our three-part series on the benefits of juicing, she explains how what we put in our bodies today, gives us an opportunity to discard damaged cells from the past, and start with a clean slate.
If you’ve had too many big nights to count, or more ready meals than homemade, there is much scientific evidence to suggest its not too late to start anew.
Most people think of their body, and the cells it is made up of, as a relatively permanent structure. In actual fact, most cells are regularly discarded and new ones are produced to replace them. Each tissue in your body (such as the heart, stomach, or skin) takes a different amount of time to fully regenerate, but on average, every seven years you have a new set of cells and your own proverbial clean slate.
Knowing this, you can see how essential it is to use the purest, most amazing raw materials as building blocks for your new cells. Your body can actually feel better, and younger, and look better as you age.
Here’s where the juice comes in. We now know that eating raw vegetables and fruits increases energy, prevents chronic illnesses, promotes an alkaline pH and helps rebuild strong and healthy cells. And we rarely eat enough of them.
“On average, every seven years you have a new set of cells and your own proverbial clean slate.”
Would you be able to eat eight whole kale leaves, one large cucumber, a bunch of parsley, a head of lettuce, two apples, a lemon, a large handful of spinach and a piece of ginger in one sitting? Probably not, but you can drink it all in a single glass of juice.
The bottom line is that the more fresh vegetables and fruits you consume, the lower your risk of becoming ill or dying prematurely. And you’ll look and feel better too!
In her next article, Suzanne will explain the benefits of juice retreats as intravenous nutrition, followed by advice on when to juice and when to cleanse. Stay tuned!
