I can never get enough of this heavenly fruit!
Fig season is almost over here in Mallorca. Did you know that on the island you can find more than 240 species?
I hope you are able to find one of them and create the following recipe before they are all gone!
According to traditional Chinese medicine figs have wonderful properties: nourishing, detoxifying, and especially moisturising for our intestines and lungs – all we can really ask for when autumn is on it’s way.
They are undoubtedly divine fruits that combine amazingly well with savoury foods like no other. Many people enjoy with jamon, bacon, pork, cheese.
However, this is not really an option for the plant based community! I wanted to come up with an equally sweet, savory and plant based option.
I hope you enjoy this quick, healthy and deliciously addictive dish!
Ingredients:
3 fresh, ripe figs
1 tsp. black, small (bitter) Mallorquin olives
1 tsp. olive oil
1 tbsp Tamari (wheat free soy sauce)
Basil leaves
A couple of drops of lemon juice
Method:
Clean figs and cut in half
Mix and slowly heat olive oil and tamari in a pan
Add figs and cover with a lid
Simmer at low heat for 5 minutes (or more if figs are not soft yet)
Add the olives and let sit until olives are nice and warm
Sprinkle with a few drops of fresh lemon juice
Serve with fresh basil
